FAQs

When do lessons take place? Am I expected to attend every lesson?

The Fellowship allows for flexibility in your schedule. For instance, you will have a choice of attending the main lesson on either Sunday evenings (5 pm EST) or Monday mornings (9 am EST). You are required to attend at least 5 lessons live, but we encourage you to attend all of the lessons live to get the most out of your Fellowship experience!

How many hours per week should I be spending on the fellowship?

Fellows typically spend 3-5 hours per week on fellowship related activities. That includes attending the main lesson, participating in community-wide events, working on assignments, and attending additional workshops, talks, or events!

What are we going to be learning about during the fellowship?

The fellowship covers a wide variety of topics! You can read more about the specifics in the syllabus here.

I’m having trouble with the asynchronous orientation. Who should I contact?

Email admissions@civicsunplugged.org and a member of our team will get back to you as soon as we can!

How can I get the most out of my Fellowship experience?

This is a great question! We believe the more you put into the fellowship the more you’ll get out of it. Make sure you attend weekly lessons, ask questions, and connect with your peers! We would also encourage you to attend the optional sessions that pique your interest. For example, Skill Labs, will give you the opportunity to learn about and hone the practical skills necessary to become an effective change maker!

Who are Guides and Global Guides? What are Topic Takeovers and Meetings of the Mind?

  1. Guides and Global Guides are CU community members (former Fellows like you!) who are passionate about welcoming new members of the CU community and fostering conversation that deepens the Fellowship experience, both educationally and socially, for Fellows. Global Guides specifically work to add a  cross-cultural and -national perspective to the Lesson topics. Guides lead Topic Takeovers and Meetings of the Mind!

  2. Topic Takeovers: Led by Guides, Topic Takeovers happen weekly in a dedicated Slack channel for each Lesson Topic. In this channel, Guides and Global Guides will share engaging content to spark conversation. Fellows are strongly encouraged to actively participate in these channels - sharing their thoughts, perspectives, and lived experiences. CU staff will even chime in!

  3. Meetings of the Mind: Starting Week 2 of the CIF, each fellowship week ends with a Meeting of the Minds on Saturday. Select fellows (based on availability and selections in your Acceptance Form) will participate in this small group discussion designed by the Guide of the week. This will allow for meaningful deep dives into the Lesson topic, beyond what was covered during the Lesson that week. You will be notified of your Meeting of the Mind Assignment by February 17th.
